STAINED GLASS ARTIST/DESIGNER TRAINEE:
The medium of stained glass is inexorably linked with western religious architecture and the new stained glass commissions of the Beyer Studio are likewise, almost exclusively for Christian Churches. Their designs most often feature narrative scenes and/or symbols highly rendered and richly designed. The Beyer Studio is seeking an Artist/Designer Trainee who would embrace the challenges of this historically spiritual medium.
●Applicants must be able to demonstrate a facility with rendering the human figure.
●A portfolio or work in a variety of media is required and should feature a confident mastery of human anatomy and facial expression.
●Trainees will undergo extensive training in all aspects of the medium, acquiring skills required, not only making stained glass but also essential to understanding an ancient medium.
●Trainees will also learn the techniques of restoring historic windows as a valuable experience of the medium through various periods and schools.
●It is expected that this training will also involve some on-site work, both removing and installing windows, to fully understand the link between the medium and its’ architectural setting.
● Special emphasis in the techniques of vitreous glass painting will be an important part of the training, learning the skills while working on actual commissioned works.
● Demonstrations of the techniques of vitreous glass painting can be viewed on the Studio website. (https://www.beyerstudio.com/video.html)
● No prior knowledge or experience of stained glass is required to apply. Stained glass is closely associated with religious architecture and, whether they are new commissions or old windows being restored, they usually reference Judeo-Christian subject matter, symbolism or imagery.
● A religious background or knowledge and experience of western religious art history is considered a valuable asset, though not a requirement.
